Introductory Letter
Summer 2010
Please Read Medical and Insurance Information Very Carefully
Dear Parent(s) or Guardian(s) and Student-Athletes:
We hope this letter finds each of you enjoying your summer and excited to arrive at the University of Redlands this fall. Included here you will find an Athlete Information Form (AIF) that corresponds to each type of student athlete, NEW or RETURNING, as well as additional information that outlines and explains the medical and insurance policies of the University of Redlands and the Department of Athletics and Physical Education.
Please take the time to review this important information, then mail the appropriate completed Athlete Information Form (AIF) for your status, together with a photocopy of the front and back of your private insurance card, and the completed Personal Information Form no later than August 1, 2010, to:

Earlier this summer, you should have received information from the Office of Student Life regarding the AETNA Student Health Insurance Plan. Enrollment in this program is optional and provides coverage for injuries sustained while participating in intercollegiate athletics up to a maximum benefit of $2,500.00. All student-athletes are covered by an Excess Secondary Medical Insurance Plan. This plan pays only after the first $2,500.00 of medical expenses has been paid by a family policy, or the AETNA Student Health Insurance Plan. This excess plan is used as secondary coverage to any other insurance the student may have. The University of Redlands Athletic Training Department recommends that you evaluate your private insurance policy, especially if you have an HMO or an out of area medical plan. Many times with these medical plans, quick and efficient medical referrals for the student-athlete are limited and may affect timely medical care that will allow the student-athlete to return to participation. Purchasing the optional AETNA Student Health Insurance Plan as a secondary insurance plan can, in many cases, provide an alternative option for those participating in intercollegiate athletics at the University of Redlands to obtain medical referrals to local health care providers, thereby avoiding travel home expenses or delays in medical care. Details of the optional AETNA Student Health Insurance Plan are explained on page 2 of the Important Medical and Insurance Information document.
Also included is a step by step claim(s) procedure you should follow when filing any claim(s) for injuries that your son or daughter may incur while participating in intercollegiate athletics at the University of Redlands. Please retain this information for future reference.
Again, if you have any questions concerning this information, please feel free to contact the athletic training office at the number listed below.
Sincerely,
Junior Domingo
