Derrick Redd Jr. began as the first-ever full-time Assistant Sports Information Director on Monday, July 9, 2018. This former Ethnic Minority and Women’s Internship Grant recipient at Mount Holyoke College (MA) works alongside Rachel Roche, Assistant Director of Athletics - Sports Information, in this newly formed role.

Redd returned to his home-state of California to join the University of Redlands after two years with Mount Holyoke College. During his tenure, he assisted with all athletic communications efforts, including live stats, live interviews, graphic design, and video editing, among other duties. Furthermore, Redd served as the athletics liaison for the campus’ Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Committee. While at MHC, Redd volunteered on a number of panels at the NCAA National Office, including a career opportunities panel at the 2018 NCAA Convention.

During the summer of 2018, Redd worked as a beat reporter for the WNBA’s Connecticut Sun. His responsibilities included feature story writing, game recaps, press conferences, and game-day media activities for the Women’s Hoops World website.

Redd also volunteered at the NCAA March Madness East Regional in Boston, working with the Associated Press.

Redd received his bachelor’s degree in both Sports Management as well as Marketing from the University of Minnesota-Crookston in 2016.  During his time there, he gained valuable experience as a sports information intern while also playing basketball for the Golden Eagles.  He ended his collegiate career as the third all-time scorer in school history. Redd attended Paloma Valley High School in Menifee, California, where he competed in basketball, football, and track & field, and remains the all-time record-holder for the Long Jump.

In his spare time, Redd enjoys watching and playing sports. He also likes to go to the movies, hang out with friends, and eat lots of food.
