Edwin B. Hales Bulldog Bench Golf Classic Drives in Impressive Numbers for Redlands Athletics

The 28th edition of the Edwin B. Hales Bulldog Bench Golf Classic teed off on May 22 on a gorgeous day at the Redlands Country Club, raising critical funds for the University of Redlands student-athlete experience.  With a sold-out field of 140 golfers, the tournament involved community members, business representatives, alumni, and friends of the Bulldogs in a fun-filled day that netted nearly $50,000 in the most profitable showing in the tournament's history.

"This was a tremendously successful day and we applaud everyone's involvement for helping us achieve a new benchmark for this event," Director of Athletics Jeff Martinez commented.  "However, our fundraising efforts are always ongoing, as we continue to ensure the best possible student-athlete experience at Redlands."

Overall, the event relies on the generous support of consistent and loyal corporate sponsors that supplied more than $26,000 in donations to this year's tournament.  These significant supporters include Brian R. Bloom-Architect, Hardy Insurance & Risk Management, Tilden-Coil Constructors, Redlands Ford, Bakers Drive-Thru, Beaver Medical Group, Couts Heating & Cooling, Lee & Associates, Leon's NW BBQ Sauce, Provident Bank Mortgage, Tovey/Shultz Construction, and first-time contributors Hughes Marino Real Estate, KAR Construction, and Chris W. Strand CPA.

In addition to corporate sponsors and golfer fees, Redlands collected income from multiple tee sponsors, cash donors, an opportunity drawing, the Las Vegas hole, mulligans, and more.

Prior to teeing off at the Redlands Country Club, participants enjoyed an informative clinic by current Head Men's Golf Coach Fred Hanover.

During the dinner program, golfers learned more about the Bulldog student-athlete experience through soccer captain Colin Zaccagnio's '17 shared reflections.  They also picked up donated door prizes, received golf awards, and participated in silent and live auctions that were supplemented in part by generous contributors and organized by Larry Zucker '81 and his company The Gavel Group.  Zucker and his team joined the Bulldog Bench Golf Classic for the first time and added another level of successful giving to the amazing day.

Next year's Edwin B. Hales Bulldog Bench Golf Classic is slated for May 21, 2018, at the Redlands Country Club.
