The University of Redlands chapter of Omicron Delta Kappa (ODK) recently announced that senior forward Ian Gordon (Bellevue, WA) of the Bulldog men’s basketball team and sophomore Lauren Robeznieks (Tigard, OR) of the Redlands women’s swimming & diving team were selected as the Athletes of the Month for January.

Gordon came off the bench and helped the Bulldogs to a pair of wins during the month of January over Caltech and the University of La Verne.  Tying his season-high effort on January 29 against Pomona-Pitzer Colleges, Gordon racked up 13 points on a 5-for-7 shooting effort, including nailing three long-range efforts against the Sagehens.  He was also effective against Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Colleges, tallying four points with one three-pointer in 13 minutes of action.  Throughout the course of the month, Gordon racked up 18 rebounds, 7 assists, and one block.

Robeznieks led the Maroon and Gray to an impressive 3-1 record as a team in January, excelling in the relays and individual events.  On top of helping the Bulldogs win a number of relays, she dominated individually with four first-place finishes.  Against Whittier, she touched the wall in first place in the 200 Free (2:00.98) and the 100 Fly (1:01.18), while a week later in a Tri-Meet against Cal Lutheran University and the University of La Verne, she uncorked the fastest times in the same events, both marks being faster than the previous week’s.  Finally, Robeznieks tallied a runner-up finish and a third-place mark against Pomona-Pitzer Colleges in the final meet of January.

Redlands’ ODK requests nominations from coaches and athletic staff each month in an effort to distinguish student-athletes who demonstrate extraordinary leadership throughout their collegiate experience.  In addition, these leaders must boast academic success by achieving a minimum GPA of 3.0.

Established in 1914, ODK is the national leadership honor society that recognizes students for outstanding leadership and involvement in extracurricular activities.  For more information about ODK, please visit the ODK website.
