Bulldog Women’s, Men’s Soccer Teams to Compete in SCIAC Postseason Tournaments

The University of Redlands women’s and men’s soccer teams earned the No. 2 and No. 3 seeds in their respective Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) Postseason Tournaments as a result of their in-conference performances during the regular season.

The Bulldog women (11-6 overall) compiled a conference record of 9-3 and clinched the No. 2 seed in the women’s tournament. Redlands competes against No. 3 Occidental College (9-6, 7-5 SCIAC) in the semifinal round on Thursday, which will be held at Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Colleges’ Pritzlaff Field. Game time is set for 5 p.m. The Bulldogs had the Tigers’ number in their two regular-season meetings, winning, 2-0, in both tilts. No. 1 Claremont-Mudd-Scripps encounters No. 4 Cal Lutheran University at 7:30 p.m in the other semifinal match-up following the Redlands-Occidental contest.

Redlands’ men’s team (9-6-4 overall) went 8-3-3 in SCIAC competition and earned the men’s tournament’s No. 3 seed. The Maroon and Gray will travel to Whittier College’s Donald E. Graham Field on Wednesday for a 7:30 p.m. bout against No. 2 Whittier (9-4-4, 8-2-4 SCIAC). Whittier downed Redlands, 2-1, in overtime on Sept. 16, and the Poets played the Bulldogs to a 1-1 tie when they met again on Oct. 10. Admission into the event is $5 for adults, but students, faculty and staff from SCIAC-member schools can enter free of charge. In addition, children 12 and under also will be allowed to enter for free. Live stats will be offered at http://livestats.prestosports.com/whittier/. No. 1 Pomona-Pitzer Colleges and No. 4 Claremont-Mudd-Scripps meet at 2:30 p.m. in Claremont on Wednesday in the other semifinal game. The Bulldog men have reached the NCAA Division III Championships for eight consecutive years.

On Saturday, the highest remaining seed in each tournament will host the final contest, which will determine who receives the SCIAC’s automatic berth into the NCAA Division III Championships. Sites and times are contingent upon the semifinal results.
