Former Bulldog Shortstop Chase Tucker Signs Professional Contract
Chase Tucker '12, a former shortstop of the University of Redlands baseball team, recently signed a professional contract with the Gary SouthShore RailCats.
After his illustrious career as a U of R Bulldog, Tucker notched his first two hits with the RailCats in a 2-for-4 performance on August 17. After Tucker's strong showing, the RailCats went on to sweep the weekend series against the Sioux Falls Pheasants.
Tucker joins former Bulldog pitcher and assistant coach Nolan Nicholson on the roster of the RailCats.
The RailCats are a professional baseball team based in Gary, IN. They are a member of the American Association of Independent Professional Baseball Leagues. The league's long history dates back to 1902, but after a short break, the league was reinstated in October 2005. By 2012, the league was made up of 13 teams among three divisions: North, Central and South, with the RailCats competing in the Central division.
From 2005-09, the RailCats reached the Championship Series each year and won the league championship in both 2005 and 2007.
The RailCats next face the Winnipeg Goldeyes on Tuesday at 7:10 p.m. CT.
