Vinny and Skip Fazio Resign from Bulldog Football

Director of Athletics Jeff Martinez announced on Monday that Defensive Coordinator Skip Fazio and Assistant Coach Vinny Fazio will step down from their respective posts with the University of Redlands football team.

S. Fazio became the team’s defensive coordinator in early 2005. During his time at Redlands, the Bulldogs have become the top defense in the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC), leading virtually every defensive statistical category during the past few seasons. In 2008, Redlands ranked first among all Division III schools in tackles for a loss and rush defense. This season, the Bulldogs currently sit third in the nation for sacks, fourth in rush defense, and seventh in total defense.

He currently teaches at Fontana High School and will continue his full-time responsibilities there. His last day with the Bulldogs will be Dec. 15.

“Coach Fazio has been a master of defense and a pillar of strength as our defensive coordinator,” stated Head Football Coach Mike Maynard. “He and his son, Vinny, brought our defense to new heights of excellence. I am certain their legacy will live on in the performance of our defense for years to come.”

V. Fazio originally joined the staff in 2005 as a volunteer coach and eventually became a full-time assistant coach in 2007. He has been involved with special teams as well as the linebackers during his tenure with the Bulldogs. He also played an instrumental role in the recruiting efforts and in many of the operational aspects of the program.

He plans to pursue other coaching and teaching opportunities in the local high schools but will remain on staff until the end of December.

“Their overall efforts on behalf of Bulldog Athletics and enthusiasm for the student-athlete experience have been outstanding,” commented Martinez. “We wish them the best in their future endeavors.”

The search process for a full-time defensive coordinator will begin immediately.
