Bulldog Football Advances to NCAA Championships, Faces Mary Hardin-Baylor for First Time
It was announced on Sunday afternoon that the No. 13/14 University of Redlands football team was selected as one of 32 teams for the 2011 NCAA Championships, making this the program's sixth overall appearance since joining the NCAA Division III. The Bulldogs hit the road to the No. 4 University of Mary Hardin-Baylor in Belton, Texas, to face the Crusaders, who put together a 10-0 season as the American Southwest Conference champion.
The squads square off for the first time in history on Saturday, Nov. 19, at 12 noon at Tiger Field.
Redlands gained an at-large berth to the "Big Dance" after finishing second in the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) behind an 8-1 overall record. The Bulldogs return to the NCAA Championships for the first time since 2007 and seek their first postseason win in Redlands' NCAA Division III history.
UMHB is coming off its second perfect regular season in as many years and will open the NCAA Championships at home for the fifth time.
The winner of the Redlands-UMHB game faces the victor of the McMurry University-Trinity University showdown.
According to UMHB's web site, tickets will go on sale to the general public on Thursday, Nov. 17, from 1-6 p.m., and then on Friday, Nov. 18, from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tickets are $8 for adults and $4 for seniors and students (ages 3-college age) and will be sold from the Mayborn Campus Center ticket windows off of University Drive.
