Redlands’ Hutter, Herrera, and Albrecht Earn D3football.com All-Region Honors

It was announced late Monday that three University of Redlands football players landed on the 2011 D3football.com All-West Region teams for their contributions throughout the Bulldogs' 8-2 season that culminated in the program's sixth NCAA appearance.  Senior defensive end Brett Hutter (Ontario, CA) and senior safety Josh Herrera (Vista, CA) collected Second-Team honors, while senior offensive tackle Sam Albrecht (Yorba Linda, CA) gained a spot on the Third Team.

Hutter captures the first All-Region award of his career after supplying an incredibly balanced stat sheet during the 2011 season.  He recorded 30 tackles, including 17 of the solo variety, while leading the team in tackles for a loss. Overall, he posted a TFL in seven games in his final year with Redlands, pushing opponents back a total of 32 yards.  He posted 4.5 sacks in the process.  Hutter also ranked first among the Bulldogs with 11 quarterback hurries and added five pass break-ups.  Earlier this season, he earned First-Team All-Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) recognition and Capital One® Academic All-District First-Team honors from the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).

One of four team co-captains, Herrera adds to his trio of previous All-Conference honors with his first ever All-West Region selection.  During his final campaign, he ranked third overall on the team with 66 tackles, including 38 solo hits.  This talented free safety also recorded eight pass break-ups, including six in conference action.  In addition, he nabbed an interception during the Bulldogs' season opener when they upended then-No. 4 North Central College.

Following his First-Team All-SCIAC nod, Albrecht caps off his career with his inaugural All-Region nod.  He represents the Maroon and Gray O-line that led the nation with the least number of sacks allowed with only three in 10 games this season.  Starting for the third year of his career, Albrecht served as a strong leader for this critical group, which helped the Bulldog offense to rack up a balanced attack of 2,016 rushing yards and 2,159 passing yards.

The All-West Region ballot included 212 nominations from NCAA Division III member schools, with sports information directors and D3football.com staff determining the 75 honorees among the three teams for defense and three teams for offense.

Within the SCIAC, Cal Lutheran University, Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Colleges, Pomona-Pitzer Colleges, and Chapman University joined Redlands on the list of recipients.
