It was announced earlier today that four University of Redlands football players landed on the 20th Annual USA Football News College Football Division III Pre-Season West Region All-Stars Team for 2012. Senior quarterback Chad Hurst (Dixon, CA), senior running back Brad Crisanty (Granite Bay, CA), senior offensive lineman Peter Kinney (Newport Beach, CA) and senior linebacker Jordan Garcia (Carlsbad, CA) represent the Maroon and Gray on this talented list of west-region players.
Players are selected to the All-Stars Team by coaches, sports information directors, certified players' agents, pro scouts, media and staff of USA Football News. As west-region representatives, each player is now eligible for USA Football News College Pre-Season All-America status.
Hurst returns after his breakout season in which he led the Bulldogs to the NCAA Championships for the first time since 2007. Playing in all 10 games for Redlands, he compiled a completion percentage of 52.1% while throwing for 2,151 yards and 19 touchdowns. Showing his versatility, Hurst also served as the team's leading rusher, compiling 705 yards and 10 touchdowns on the ground. For his outstanding play, this team captain earned Second-Team All- Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) honors.
Crisanty, a fellow Second-Team All-SCIAC honoree, served as the team's top running back in 2011. Averaging 5.9 yards per carry, he collected 510 total yards and four touchdowns, with his longest run of 63 yards coming in the Bulldogs' 38-28 victory over the University of La Verne. Additionally, Crisanty caught three balls out of the backfield for 35 yards and one touchdown.
Kinney, another All-Conference Second-Team member for the Bulldogs, served an integral role on the offensive line that contributed to the squad's potent run-game. Redlands rushed for a total of 2,016 yards during the 2011 campaign, and as a part of the impenetrable offensive line, Kinney helped the Bulldogs to lead the NCAA Division III with the fewest sacks allowed during the season.
Garcia, the lone defensive First-Team All-SCIAC returnee for the U of R, enters his final campaign as a team captain for the third consecutive year. In 2011, he led the Bulldogs with 87 tackles, which included 54 of the solo variety. Garcia also racked up 6.5 tackles for a loss to go along with four quarterback hurries.
