It was announced earlier today that the University of Redlands football team landed among the best in NCAA Division III as determined by a pair of preseason polls for the upcoming campaign. The College Sporting News recognized the Bulldogs as the No. 24 team in the country, while D3football.com placed them at No. 25.
Redlands is the sole member of the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) to be selected to either top-25 poll.
With these rankings, the Maroon and Gray picks up right where it left off at the end of the 2016 season when it was tabbed the No. 25 team on the American Football Coaches Association's (AFCA) final poll.
Redlands is coming off of an 8-2 season that included an undefeated run through the SCIAC for the program's 30th conference title overall and 12th under Head Coach Mike Maynard.
The Bulldogs look forward to the return of a talented veteran class of competitors, including linebacker Mitch Shepherd (Seattle, WA), who was named the 2016 SCIAC Defensive Athlete of the Year.
The complete D3football.com poll is available at the organization's website. The Sporting News rankings are available by online subscription only.
Redlands kicks off the 2017 season with its home opener against Trinity University (TX) on September 2 at 7 p.m. in Ted Runner Stadium.
