Bulldog Men's Basketball Dominates from Downtown in 77-55 Win over Occidental
While shooting an impressive 54.2% from beyond the arc, the University of Redlands men's basketball team maintained its second-place tie among the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) with a 77-55 victory over the visiting Tigers of Occidental College on Wednesday. The Bulldogs knocked down 13 baskets from three-point range while hitting 50% of their overall shots. In addition, the Maroon and Gray registered its lowest number of turnovers for the season with a mere eight.
Redlands' first two shots of the night proved to be precursors to its hot long-range shooting, as senior center Jack Colston (Dana Point, CA) and junior guard Brian Kuklok (Poway, CA) hit consecutive three-pointers.
With the score knotted at 18 midway through the opening half, the Bulldogs lit up the scoreboard with an 18-5 run to secure a double-digit lead that lasted through the final whistle. During this span of just over six minutes, Redlands rattled off five three-pointers, including a pair of back-to-back long balls by junior forward Josiah Brensdal (Kent, WA). He finished the night with 13 points and six rebounds.
At the 9:51-mark of the second stanza, the Bulldogs made it a 21-point game when junior guard Tristan Kirk (Redlands, CA) sank a jumper.
During the second half, Redlands unleashed a 7-for-10 performance from beyond the arc en route to the solid victory over the Tigers.
Kuklok led all scorers with 20 points, highlighted by his 4-for-4 shooting on three-pointers. Kirk stepped up with 12 points, seven assists and six rebounds.
Occidental's Deshun McCoy posted a team-high 18 points, while Conrad Liebowitz provided a double-double on 12 points and 10 rebounds.
Redlands (11-8, 6-2 SCIAC) heads to Pomona-Pitzer Colleges on Saturday for an important bout with the Sagehens, who also sit in the three-way tie for second place. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m.
