Riter, Stenftenagel Recognized as Division III Cleveland Golf/Srixon All-America Scholars

The No. 9 University of Redlands men’s golf team’s
senior J.C. Riter (Portland, OR) and senior E.J. Stenftenagel
(Indian Wells, CA) were tabbed as NCAA Division III Cleveland
Golf/Srixon All-America Scholars for their success both in the
classroom and on the golf course, according to an announcement made
by the Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA) on Friday.
Riter, a History major, has lived up to the prestigious
expectations of the award, boasting an impressive GPA while serving
as an integral part of the team for four years. Academically, he
has twice earned the Redlands Scholar-Athlete award, which is
bestowed upon student-athletes who possess a minimum of a 3.5 GPA.
Also a three-time NCAA Championship participant, Riter has competed
as a member of two national runner-up squads. In 2009, he served as
Redlands’ third-best golfer at the postseason tournament,
carding scores of 76, 77, 78 and 78 to wind up with a total of 309.
He excelled in conference play this year as well, receiving
Second-Team All-Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic
Conference (SCIAC) honors.
As a Business major, Stenftenagel joins this distinguished list of
student-athletes. As one of the team’s most decorated
golfers, he guided the Bulldogs to a memorable second-place finish
at last year’s NCAA Championships and garnered PING
Second-Team All-America honors for his efforts. In addition, he was
named the SCIAC’s Lee Fulmer Co-Athlete of the Year in 2008.
Stenftenagel helped the team in numerous regular-season tournaments
this year, aiding the squad in its second-place finish in the
SCIAC. Notably, he golfed on the quintet that placed second at the
West Region Invitational in April of 2009.
To be eligible for Cleveland Golf All-America Scholar status, an
individual must be a junior or senior academically and compete in
at least two full years at the collegiate level, participate in 70
percent of his team’s competitive rounds or compete in the
NCAA Championships, have a stroke average under 79.0 in Division
III and maintain a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.2. A recipient must
also be of high moral character and be in good standing at his
college or university.
