No. 4 Bulldog Men's Golf Takes Second at SCIAC 18-hole Finale

The fourth-ranked University of Redlands men's golf team maintained its lead in the overall Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) standings by finishing second at the final 18-hole tournament of the regular season, which took place on Sunday at Tukwet Canyon Golf Course. Serving as the hosts of the event, the Bulldogs rattled off four sub-80 rounds to complete the par-72 course with a team total of 305, which was five strokes ahead of third-place Chapman University and nine strokes off of the leaders from No. 9 University of La Verne.

The freshman duo of Perry Johnson (Lake Forest, IL) and Bobby Holden (Simi Valley, CA) continue to shine for the Bulldogs, recording rounds of 74 and 76, respectively, as the squad's top finishers. Johnson shot two-over par to lead the Maroon and Gray with his tied-for-third-place showing, while Holden completed the par-72 course tied for eighth overall.

Sophomore Jeremy Sanders (Chatsworth, CA) also notched a round of 76, joining Holden in the standings at eighth.

Competing as an individual, sophomore Jeremy Gomberg (Los Altos, CA) signed his scorecard at 77, adding to the bottleneck at 11th-place that included four other competitors.

Second-year swinger Nick Johnson (La Jolla, CA) rounded out the sub-80 performers with his score of 79.

Finally, sophomore Mike Caston Jr. (Escondido, CA) and rookie Anthony Estes (San Pedro, CA) rounded out the Redlands contributors with scores of 80 and 82, respectively.

With the results of all five SCIAC 18-hole events combined together, Redlands boasts 30 points at the top of the standings, with La Verne sitting one point behind in second place.

The Bulldogs look forward to competing in the SCIAC 36-hole Championships on April 22-23 at Diamond Valley Golf Course in Hemet.
