Redlands Men's Golf Selected to NCAA Championships

It was announced on Monday morning that the University of Redlands men's golf team was awarded one of seven at-large berths to the 2012 NCAA Division III Championships, which take place on Tuesday, May 15, through Friday, May 18, in Howey-in-the-Hills, FL.

Making their second trip to nationals in three years, the Bulldogs join a total of 210 participants, which include 41 teams and five individuals.

Four of the advancing programs hail from the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC), with the University of La Verne gaining the automatic bid, and Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Colleges and Cal Lutheran University joining the Bulldogs with Pool-C bids. Boasting an impressive list of national rankings, the quartet is highlighted by three among the top 10 with Redlands sitting at No. 5.

Hosted by Oglethorpe University and the Central Florida Sports Commission, the NCAA Championships include four rounds of golf at the Mission Inn Resort and Club, with the field being reduced to 15 teams after 36 holes.

Led by a trio of All-SCIAC performers, the Bulldogs strive to improve upon last year's 10th-place showing.  Among the contenders, sophomore Jeremy Sanders (Chatsworth, CA) makes a return trip to the national scene, with freshmen Bobby Holden (Simi Valley, CA) and Perry Johnson (Lake Forest, IL) solidifying an impressive lineup that owns an adjusted scoring average of 74.49.
