The No. 9 University of Redlands men's soccer team squared off against Whitman College (WA) on Friday evening on Farquhar Field, but suffered a difficult 0-1 loss to the Missionaries. After no goals from either side in the first half, Whitman notched the game-winner less than five minutes into the second stanza.
Sophomore forward Charles Izydorek (Redlands, CA) led the Maroon and Gray attack, tallying six total shots, including two on frame. Additionally, senior midfielders Nick Eary (Las Vegas, NV) and Gabe Ramirez (Pasadena, CA) each notched three shots in the loss.
While the Bulldogs took 19 total shots as compared to the Missionaries' six, Redlands was unable to find the back of the net.
Between the pipes for Redlands, junior goalkeeper Andreas Silva (San Jose, CA) recorded three saves in 90 minutes of work.
Whitman sophomore midfielder Michael Axelson (Issaquah, WA) scored the lone goal of the match off a through-ball from junior midfielder Junpei Tsuji (Issaquah, WA).
The U of R (0-1-0) looks to rebound from this loss on September 10 when it hosts Occidental in the first Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) match of the season. Kick-off is set for 7 p.m.
