Marquez Nabs CoSIDA Academic All-District Honor for Bulldog Men's Soccer
It was announced on Thursday morning by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) that University of Redlands men's soccer junior defender Richie Marquez (Pomona, CA) garnered First-Team Academic All-District honors for NCAA Division III. For Marquez, this marks his inaugural award from CoSIDA.
The lynchpin of the Maroon and Gray defensive backline, Marquez's efforts have contributed to Redlands' goals-against-average of 0.78 per contest, ranking first in the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC). The U of R has also allowed the fewest number of total goals during conference play, letting in just 13. While always solid defensively, Marquez brings a unique skill-set to the offensive end of the field as well, notching two goals and one assist on the campaign. This two-time First-Team All-SCIAC honoree has also collected a pair of National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) All-West Region accolades in his tenure. A two-time Redlands Scholar-Athlete, he has been a Dean's List member every semester of his Bulldog career. Currently, Marquez boasts a cumulative 3.81 GPA as a Communicative Disorders major.
As a member of the Academic All-District First Team, Marquez now advances onto the national ballot for possible CoSIDA All-America recognition.
