No. 18 Bulldog Men's Tennis Downed by No. 20 Bowdoin College
Playing in its third match of the week, the No. 18 University of Redlands men's tennis came up short in today's non-conference showdown against No. 20 Bowdoin College (ME) by a score of 4-5.
The Bulldogs captured two of the doubles points to secure an early 2-1 lead over the Polar Bears. After the No. 3 duo lost, the No. 2 team of senior Jeff Hammond and junior Keven Wong (Kaneohe, HI) evened the score with their 8-6 victory. The top tandem of junior Cameron Spearman (Laguna Niguel, CA) and freshman Anish Nanda (Cerritos, CA) took down their opponents, 8-5, to put Redlands up by one in the overall tally.
In singles, the Bulldogs struck first with a 7-6(2), 6-1 performance by freshman Connor Hyde (Peterborough, NH) at No. 6, extending their lead to 3-1.
However, Bowdoin stormed back with two-set victories at No. 1, 4, 3 and then 2 to hand Redlands a difficult loss.
Freshman Taylor Chaparro (Burlingame, CA) gained the Maroon and Gray's fourth point with his 6-2, 4-6, 6-3 victory at No. 5.
The Bulldogs (9-6) face off against No. 26 Whitman College (WA) on Tuesday at 2 p.m. on Verdieck Courts.
