Redlands Men’s Water Polo Rallies in Second Half to Beat Cal Lutheran

Down, 6-7, at halftime, the University of Redlands men’s water polo team appeared headed for an upset loss at home to Cal Lutheran University. However, the Bulldogs battled back in the second half to win, 15-11, on Wednesday evening in Redlands.

The Maroon and Gray jumped out to a 4-1 advantage in the first quarter, but the Kingsmen outscored the Bulldogs, 6-2, in the second period to gain a 7-6 lead. Redlands tied the game in the third quarter and then built up a four-goal edge in the fourth stanza that held solvent at the final whistle.

Senior center Ryan Floersch (San Jose, CA) led the offensive charge, netting a game-high four goals. Senior driver Erik Grosshans (Oxnard, CA) provided a hat trick while senior driver Marc Hicks (Granada Hills, CA) and senior central defender John Floersch (San Jose, CA) each found the back of the net twice. In addition, junior driver Bo Sidhu (Indio, CA), senior driver Brent Dotters (Porterville, CA), junior center Miran Terzic (Mostar, Bosna i Hercegovina) and senior driver Clint Stevenson (South Jordan, UT) offered one goal apiece.

Tending the Bulldog net, senior goalkeeper Teddy Trowbridge (Mercer Island, WA) stopped eight shots. Cal Lutheran’s Jordan Bouey turned away six attempts protecting the Kingsmen goal.

The Maroon and Gray also boasted a 15-10 win over the Kingsmen on Sept. 27.

Cal Lutheran (3-16, 0-2 SCIAC) will host La Verne on Saturday at 11 a.m.

Redlands (10-14, 2-0 SCIAC) next faces Whittier College in Whittier on Saturday. Game time is set for 11 a.m. at the Lillian Slade Aquatics Center. The Bulldogs defeated the Poets, 14-11, in their first meeting on Sept. 26.
