Parsons and vanHartesvelt Collect Honorable Mention All-WWPA Recognition
It was announced on Tuesday that senior driver Jeff Parsons (Newark, CA) and senior center Blake vanHartesvelt (Mercer Island, WA) of the University of Redlands men's water polo team earned Honorable Mention All-Western Water Polo Association (WWPA) recognition for their contributions during the 2011 regular season.
Parsons earns his first career WWPA award after playing a vital role for the Bulldogs thus far. The four-year driver was a force on both sides of the ball, ranking among the squad's top three in goals (35), steals (21) and ejections drawn (28).
U of R's big time playmaker, vanHartesvelt garners his first WWPA accolade after leading the Bulldogs in various categories this season. He tallied a team-high 56 goals, including 10 on penalty throws. On the defensive end, the veteran registered a team-best 16 field blocks to go along with 36 ejections drawn and 18 steals.
After finishing third in the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC), the Bulldogs (16-17, 7-3 SCIAC) enter the WWPA Championships as the eighth seed and battle it out with the ninth-seeded Chapman University Panthers on Thursday at 6 p.m. The tournament continues through Sunday at the Canyonview Aquatic Center on the campus of UC San Diego.
