VanHartesvelt, Freeman and Parsons Elected to All-SCIAC Teams

It was announced on Monday that the University of Redlands men's water polo program grabbed three All-Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) selections, highlighted by senior center Blake vanHartesvelt's (Mercer Island, CA) First-Team honor. In addition, sophomore driver Clint Freeman (Brentwood, CA) and senior driver Jeff Parsons (Newark, CA) nabbed Second-Team accolades.

One of the club's veteran leaders, vanHartesvelt collects his inaugural All-Conference award after leading the team in several major categories, including goals (21), ejections drawn (16), and field blocks (5) during SCIAC competition. Furthermore, he dished out five assists while swiping seven steals.

Freeman excelled in his second campaign with the Maroon and Gray by recording career-highs en route to his first All-SCIAC recognition. While competing in 10 conference games, this offensive weapon ranked second on the squad with 17 netters and nine assists. On the defensive side of the pool, he tallied seven ejections drawn, six steals and three field blocks.

In his final season with the U of R, Parsons picked up his initial All-SCIAC accolade as one of Redlands' most well-balanced players.  During SCIAC action, he found the back of the net on 13 occasions, headlined by a team-best three goals on penalty shots. Beyond his scoring abilities, the driver notched eight assists, seven steals, 11 ejections drawn and four field blocks.

Overall, Redlands finished out the 2011 season with a 17-20 recorded while going 7-3 in SCIAC for a third-place finish.
