Eight UR Men’s Water Polo Players Collect WWPA All-Academic Team Honors
It was announced earlier today that eight members of the University of Redlands men's water polo program landed on the 2011 Western Water Polo Association (WWPA) All-Academic Team. Redlands' selections include senior drivers Danny Boessenecker (Clayton, CA) and Jeff Parsons (Newark, CA), junior driver Patrick Roth (Cottonwood Heights, UT), and junior center-defender Matt Zaggy (University City, MO). In addition, the Bulldog sophomore trio of goalkeeper Tyler Abbott (Alta Loma, CA), driver Clint Freeman (Brentwood, CA), and center Alex Keith (Bellevue, WA), along with freshman driver David Sekula (LaGrange, IL) represented the Maroon and Gray.
The 85 total honorees include those players who have completed a minimum of one semester at their respective institutions while earning a 3.0 cumulative GPA or higher and contributing to at least half of the team's contests during the 2011 season.
Sekula, Keith and Boessenecker collect their second scholarly plaudit following their All-Academic selections by the Association of Collegiate Water Polo Coaches (ACWPA), while Roth adds to this honor as well as his nod on the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) All-Academic Team.
