The University of Redlands men's water polo team squared off against the Beavers of Caltech on Wednesday evening under ideal conditions at the Thompson Aquatic Center. With persistence and depth, the Bulldogs cruised to a 21-3 victory in Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) action.
Redlands stormed out to a 5-1 lead through the first period, as junior utility player Mitchell Walker (Taylorsville, UT) provided two of the Bulldogs' goals in the opening frame.
The home team continued to cruise in the second quarter and entered the halftime break with a sizeable advantage at 9-1. Sophomore attack player Spencer Allen (Long Beach, CA) notched his second and third goals of the game during this scoring spree.
The Bulldogs closed out the match with a 12-2 run that included 11 different goal-scorers. Freshman attack player Aaron White (San Jose, CA) provided two scores and his second assist of the game, while sophomore attack player Carter Kerwin (Bakersfield, CA) registered a goal and two assists.
Freshman goalkeeper Chris Martinez (Santa Ana, CA) provided four saves and three steals in the first 16 minutes of action before sophomore goalkeeper Braeden Shaw (Yorba Linda, CA) stepped up with two saves and two steals to preserve the win.
Redlands (4-11, 2-2 SCIAC) faces Fordham University (NY) and McKendree University (IN) on Thursday, October 5, in a pair of non-conference tilts at the Thompson Aquatic Center.
