HOME OF BULLDOG MEN'S WATER POLO - 1993, 1999, 2001, 2002, 2003, 2005, 2006, 2009 SCIAC Champions

The No. 16 University of Redlands men’s water polo team garnered two First-Team All-Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) honors, one Second-Team All-SCIAC recipient and the 2008 SCIAC Player of the Year award.

Senior driver Andrew Becskehazy (Miami, FL) picked up the conference’s Player of the Year award for his offensive prowess. Becskehazy has compiled 62 goals thus far this season, helping lead the Bulldogs to a 9-1 record in the SCIAC. He also earned a First-Team All-Western Water Polo Association (WWPA) nod, which was announced yesterday.

Landing on the All-Conference First Team were junior center Brendan Meaney (Palm Desert, CA) and sophomore defender Andrew Smith-Jones (Annapolis, MD). Meaney currently leads the team in goals with 65, and this award marks the second All-Conference recognition of his career as he nabbed a spot on the Second Team following the 2007 season. He also took Second-Team All-WWPA honors for his efforts this season as well. Smith-Jones has 62 scores on the season, and this award supplements his WWPA All-Freshman Team laurels from 2007.

For the first time in his Bulldog career, senior utility player Jim Kehrig (Danville, CA) snagged a postseason honor as he earned a spot on the SCIAC’s Second Team. Kehrig has posted 37 goals thus far this year.

The SCIAC coaches vote on the All-Conference awards annually, naming eight student-athletes on the First Team and eight student-athletes on the Second Team. In addition, a Player of the Year is honored who is separate from both teams.

Redlands (26-8, 9-1 SCIAC) competes in the WWPA Championships this Friday, Saturday and Sunday at Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Colleges and will play its first match as the No. 4 seed against the fifth-seeded Santa Clara University on Friday at 11:30 a.m.
