Bulldog Mens Water Polo Set for WWPA Championships

The University of Redlands men’s water polo team gained an
automatic bid to the Western Water Polo Association (WWPA)
Championships as a result of its Southern California
Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC)-title run and will face
No. 11 UC San Diego (12-13) in the first round, as announced today
by the WWPA.
Redlands (17-16, 9-1 SCIAC) holds the tournament’s No. 6 seed
while the Tritons own the No. 3 seed. Whittier College (18-12) is
the only other SCIAC representative in the event and will take on
the No. 14 U.S. Air Force Academy (CO) in the first round as the
No. 7 seed.
In the SCIAC Championship Tournament this past weekend, the Maroon
and Gray downed the University of La Verne and Pomona-Pitzer
Colleges before defeating Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Colleges, 4-2, in
the championship game. This marks the program’s eighth
conference title in program history and its first since
2006.
The WWPA Championships take place from Nov. 20-22 at the Zee Allred
Aquatics Center on the campus of Chapman University in Orange. The
Bulldogs’ match-up on Friday versus UC San Diego takes place
at 11:45 a.m.
Opponents and times of the contests on Saturday and Sunday will be
determined based on Friday’s results.
The winner of the WWPA Championships will gain the
conference’s automatic bid to the NCAA Championships.
