Bulldog Softball Hosts Youth Softball Day and All-Skills Clinic this Weekend
The University of Redlands softball program looks forward to hosting an all-skills clinic on Sunday, February 26, 2012, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Softball "Field of Dreams". This one-day instructional opportunity for girls ages 5-14 costs just $60 per person. Teams or groups of eight or more are offered a $10 discount per registrant.
Prior to the clinic, the Bulldogs invite area girls' teams to join them at the "Field of Dreams" for Youth Softball Day on Sat., Feb. 25. Players and parents of local teams and leagues are encouraged to come out and watch Redlands compete in a doubleheader against Vanguard University at 12 noon. Throughout the day, there will be drawings for Bulldog softball gear and the chance to throw out the first pitch of the second game. Like all of the Bulldogs' home softball games, Saturday's event is free of charge. In addition, those in attendance will receive a voucher for a $10 discount to Sunday's clinic.
The morning portion focuses on offense with emphasis on speed training, base-running, short-game skills and hitting. During the afternoon, participants will practice defensive techniques, including throwing, catching, fielding and position training.
Participants must bring a sack lunch and provide their own softball attire and cleats.
Players are asked to reserve their spot ahead of time as the clinic is limited to 100 participants. Payment is due at the field on February 26 in the form of cash or check. Parents must be available to sign the release form on the day of the clinic. Please contact Assistant Coach Marin Noack at marin_noack@redlands.edu or 909-748-8436 to sign up.
Leading the clinic is Head Coach Laurie Nevarez, who enters her ninth year at the helm of the Bulldog softball program. She is joined by her assistant coaches, Marin Noack and Jennifer Lillard.
Nevarez brings an impressive résumé of experience after becoming the first and only Redlands softball coach to earn seven straight conference crowns while also guiding the Bulldogs to seven consecutive NCAA appearances.
She and Noack competed for the UCLA Bruins, contributing to the team's national championship in 1999. In addition, Nevarez earned All-Pac-10 and All-Region team honors as a second baseman.
Noack has coached with Nevarez at Redlands since the 2006 campaign.
Lillard caught for Western Alabama University during her undergraduate career. Most recently, she served as an assistant coach for the Redlands High School Terriers before joining the Bulldog softball staff.
