Swimming World Magazine to Cover Redlands-CMS Meet

The University of Redlands swimming & diving teams will garner national attention against Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Colleges on Saturday as the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) meet is set to be covered by Swimming World Magazine on its online home at www.swimmingworldmagazine.com.

Swimming World Magazine, a leading international source of news in the swimming community, showcases college meets across the country ranging from Division I to Division III, featuring historic rivalries nationwide.

"We're proud to highlight a rivalry as heated as the one between Claremont [Mudd-Scripps] and Redlands," said Jason Marsteller, managing editor of Swimming World Magazine. "Both teams are among the best in the nation, and we couldn't be more excited to cover a matchup that'll provide the competition and excitement of a big-time college meet."

Perhaps no team in the SCIAC has provided more of a challenge year after year than Claremont-Mudd-Scripps. Last season, the Stags ended the men's team's seven-year conference championship streak despite the fact that the Bulldogs had their number in the dual meet season. The men have not lost a conference dual meet since Jan. 29, 2000, when the Stags downed the Maroon and Gray by a 164-114 score. Freshman Tyler Harp (San Bernardino, CA), sophomore Miran Terzic (Mostar, Bosna i Hercegovina) and sophomore Alec Alders (Los Angeles, CA) are among the top swimmers of the 2008-09 squad and will lead the way in taking down Claremont-Mudd-Scripps for the ninth season in a row.

The Redlands women's team, which features a plethora of new faces as well as seasoned veterans, looks to challenge the defending-champion Athenas in the meet. Head Coach Leslie Whittemore will look to sophomore Kelley Cooper (San Antonio, TX), sophomore Michelle Camburn (Sunnyvale, CA), freshman McKenzie Nakamura (Kenmore, WA) and sophomore Kat McIntosh (Addis Ababa, Ethiopia), among others, to help bolster the resistance against the Athenas.

Redlands’ men’s and women’s teams are 6-1 (6-0 SCIAC) and 5-2 (5-1 SCIAC), respectively, while both Claremont-Mudd-Scripps squads hold a 6-2 overall record and a 6-0 mark in conference meets.
