Four Bulldog Swimmers Earn Invites to NCAA Championships

Four University of Redlands swimming & diving team members earned invitations to the 2009 NCAA Division III Swimming & Diving Championships in Minneapolis, MN, according to the meet's official psych sheet released today by the NCAA.

Freshman Tyler Harp (San Bernardino, CA) posted NCAA “A” cuts in the 50 and 100 freestyle events at the 2009 Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) Championships and will also take on the 100 butterfly at the national championship meet. Harp is seeded ninth in the 50 freestyle, 14th in the 100 freestyle and 21st in the 100 butterfly.

Also joining Harp among automatic cut qualifiers is sophomore Miran Terzic (Mostar, Bosna i Hercegovina). He unleashed an NCAA “A” cut in the 50 freestyle at the SCIAC Championships and will also swim the 100 butterfly and the 100 freestyle at the NCAA Championship meet. He possesses entry rankings of eighth in the 50 freestyle, 23rd in the 100 freestyle and 30th in the 100 butterfly.

Finally, senior Buddy Olds (Murrieta, CA) and junior John Floersch (San Jose, CA) gained invitations to the meet as a part of the Bulldog 400 freestyle relay. Redlands’ foursome of Olds, Terzic, Floersch and Harp nabbed an invitation to NCAAs following a 3:02.46 showing in the 400 freestyle relay at the SCIAC championship meet. Olds, in addition, will compete in the 100 freestyle as he led off the 400 freestyle relay at the SCIAC Championship meet with an NCAA “B” qualifying standard and gains the opportunity to swim the event as a member of an invited relay team. He ranks 50th among the event’s entrants.

All three relays have a chance at making an impact. The Bulldogs’ 400 freestyle relay is seeded 11th while their 200 and 800 freestyle relays hold down seeds of 18 and 21, respectively.

Sophomore Alec Alders (Los Angeles, CA), freshman McKenzie Nakamura (Kenmore, WA) and sophomore Kat McIntosh (Addis Ababa, Ethiopia) all produced individual NCAA “B” qualifying marks but did not make the at-large cutoff for the meet.

The 2009 NCAA Swimming & Diving Championships run from March 18-21 in Minneapolis, MN, at the University Aquatic Center. Ticket and lodging information as well as a list of facility regulations can be found at http://athletics.macalester.edu/sports/2008/10/9/NCAA_09_Championships.aspx?path=mswim.
