Bulldog Swimmers Wrap up NCAA Championships, Finish 46th
The University of Redlands 400 freestyle relay team gained
honorable mention All-America status on Saturday, posting a
14th-place time in the final event on the last day of the 2009 NCAA
Division III Swimming & Diving Championships in Minneapolis,
MN.
Redlands qualified for finals with a 3:03.47 time in the
preliminary heats of the event and clocked a 3:03.95 mark in the
evening session. Senior Buddy Olds (Murrieta, CA) led off the relay
with a 46.90 while sophomore Miran Terzic (Mostar, Bosna i
Hercegovina) dove off next and recorded a quick split of 45.77.
Junior John Floersch (San Jose, CA) continued to ascend into a
category of top-tier sprinting talents with a swift 46.05 before
freshman Tyler Harp (San Bernardino, CA) overtook Washington &
Lee University’s anchor swimmer in the final five meters,
giving the team the heat’s sixth-best time (3:03.95) and the
event’s 14th-best mark.
In the preliminary heats, Harp, Terzic and Olds all took on the 100
freestyle. Harp finished 24th with a time of 45.58 while Terzic and
Olds garnered places of 46th and 55th with standards of 46.53 and
46.95, respectively.
The Bulldogs closed out the meet with a 46th-place overall finish,
scoring six points with their finish in the 400 freestyle
relay.
Redlands placed second at the 2009 Southern California
Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) Championships, and all
four of the team’s NCAA qualifiers competed in their first
NCAA Championships.
