Redlands Swimming & Diving Upends Cal Lutheran

The University of Redlands swimming & diving teams defeated Cal Lutheran University on Saturday afternoon in Thousand Oaks. The men downed the Kingsmen, 182-48, while the women escaped with a 135-104 victory over the Regals.

Cal Lutheran’s women’s team gave the Bulldogs all they could handle, but Redlands’ depth proved too much for the Regals in the end.

Freshman Allie Bollella (Palo Alto, CA) gained two individual-event victories, both of which proved vital to the Bulldogs’ cause. She clocked the top time in the 50 freestyle (24.97) before blasting the field in the 100 freestyle (54.77).

Freshman Lauren Craig (Newcastle, CA) led throughout the entirety of the 200 individual medley and finished first with a time of 2:15.38.

Cal Lutheran’s Amanda Graves jumped out to an early lead in the 200 butterfly and held the advantage through the first 150 yards of the race. Senior Melanie Loo (Waipahu, HI) then overtook her down the home stretch and stopped the clock first at 2:14.19.

The women’s final individual-event triumph of the afternoon came from sophomore Jenny Bates (Littleton, CO) in the 500 freestyle (5:29.35).

Both Bulldog relays compiled important first-place points. The 400 medley relay contingent of freshman Caitlin Michaels (Hanover, NH), Craig, freshman Lauren Zehner (Portland, OR) and sophomore Casey Sripramong (Glendale, CA) combined for a 4:08.48 time while Sripramong, Bollella, senior Kelly Goeres (Tigard, OR) and freshman Shirin Sedaghat (Boulder, CO) teamed up for the top standard in the 400 freestyle relay (3:44.28).

Both sprint freestyle events went to junior Miran Terzic (Mostar, Bosna i Hercegovina). He clocked a 21.54 50 freestyle before capping off his individual-event slate with a 47.98 100 freestyle.
