Redlands Swimming & Diving Teams Remain Perfect in SCIAC, Sweep Pomona-Pitzer

The University of Redlands women’s and men’s swimming & diving teams swept Pomona-Pitzer Colleges on Saturday afternoon in Claremont, winning by respective scores of 160-74 and 161-78.

The Bulldog women, looking to avenge last year’s 110-130 dual-meet defeat against the Sagehens, compiled important points early and continued to dominate throughout the rest of the meet.

Redlands was led by freshman Allie Bollella (Palo Alto, CA), who captured two individual-event wins. She helped engineer a 1-2-3 Bulldog finish in the 200 freestyle, clocking a winning time of 1:57.71. In the 500 freestyle, she set the pace throughout and won in 5:23.66.

Freshman Shirin Sedaghat (Boulder, CO) edged Pomona-Pitzer’s Charlotte Dohrn in the 50 freestyle, completing the “splash and dash” in 25.22.

Despite trailing for the first 150 yards of the 200 butterfly, freshman Lauren Zehner (Portland, OR) tracked down the leader, Dohrn, and stopped the clock at an event-best 2:10.30.

Freshman Jessica Medvec (Tualatin, OR) also enjoyed a successful comeback, taking the 100 freestyle (54.93) after posting the third-fastest split at the halfway mark.

In the 200 breaststroke, sophomore McKenzie Nakamura (Kenmore, WA) used even splits to win in 2:33.52.

The Maroon and Gray excelled on the boards as well. Sophomore Shelby Mann (Bainbridge Island, WA) managed the top score in the 1-meter (175.70) while senior Chelsea Hamilton (Parker, CO) boasted the highest mark in the 3-meter (158.35).

Redlands’ 400 medley relay team of freshman Jessie Chansler (Kirkland, WA), Nakamura, Zehner and Medvec claimed first with a time of 4:06.50.

Second-place finishers included: Hamilton in the 1-meter (147.65), Zehner in the 200 freestyle (1:58.73), freshman Lauren Craig (Newcastle, CA) in the 200 individual medley (2:15.39), Mann in the 3-meter (134.90), Chansler in the 200 backstroke (2:13.99) and junior Michelle Camburn (Sunnyvale, CA) in the 500 freestyle (5:25.13).

The men fared equally as well as the women, turning in a solid overall effort from top to bottom.

Both junior Tim Sanders (Pasadena, CA) and freshman Chris Depew (Naperville, IL) won multiple events for the Bulldogs. Sanders mastered the 1-meter (210.60) and the 3-meter (177.55) while Depew touched the wall first in the 200 individual medley (2:00.14) and the 200 butterfly (2:02.34).

Senior Ryan Floersch (San Jose, CA) started off strong in the 200 freestyle and held on, besting the field with a 1:48.31.
