Bulldog Swimmer Jeff Depew Wins National Championship in the 200 Individual Medley

Earlier today freshman Jeff Depew (Naperville, IL) won the 200 Individual Medley for his first national title at the 2012 NCAA Division III Swimming & Diving Championships, which continue through Saturday at the Indiana University Natatorium.  Competing in his inaugural national meet, he posted a personal-best time of 1:47.60 to knock off last year's champion, Paul Dyrkacz from Williams College (MA).

This marks the Bulldogs' second national championship in the 200 IM in the past three years, following senior Collin Gladys' (Yorba Linda, CA) impressive performance in 2010.

In addition, Gladys and junior Chris Depew (Naperville, IL) finished second and third, respectively, in the consolation final.  Gladys uncorked a time of 1:50.62, while C. Depew clocked in at 1:50.75.

For the women, freshman Chandra Lukes (Escondido, CA) excelled in the 50 Free with an eighth-place finish in 23.82 during her inaugural national meet.

The Bulldogs' 200 Medley Relay of J. Depew, C. Depew, Gladys and senior Tyler Harp (San Bernardino, CA) capped off an outstanding opening day for Redlands with their fourth-place finish.  The quartet completed the multi-stroke competition with a time of 1:30.71.
