Redlands Women's Lacrosse Stuns Emerson with 21-7 Rout
The University of Redlands women's lacrosse team rattled off its fifth straight win of the 2011 season on Friday night as the Bulldogs routed the visiting Lions of Emerson College (MA) by a score of 21-7. The Bulldogs erupted for five unanswered goals in the first six minutes of the game to gain a solid lead it maintained through the final whistle.
Smith repeated her effort just over a minute later with junior attack player Kali Wilgus (Portland, OR) finding her on the way to goal.
Although Emerson scored four of the subsequent five goals to pull within two at 4-6, the Maroon and Gray responded to eventually make it an 11-5 game at the break.
After Emerson recorded the inaugural goal of the second half, the Bulldogs enjoyed offensive runs of four and six scores, highlighted by seven different players finding the back of the net. With Colasurdo, Smith, and sophomore attack player Aimee Dewan (Alamo, CA) finishing with four goals apiece, Redlands' victory was never in question.
Colasurdo also provided a game-high five ground balls to go along with three draw controls and two caused turnovers.
Freshman midfielder KK McCaslin (Portland, OR) contributed three goals, one assist, and four draw controls, while Painter stepped up with four assists and one goal.
Junior goalkeeper Ana Martinez (Pleasanton, CA) patrolled the Redlands net by making three stops in the victory. Freshman goalkeeper Erica Schulteis (Carlsbad, CA) entered the game for the final 9:47 of the game.
The Bulldogs (5-0) look forward to hosting the Loggers of the University of Puget Sound (WA) on Tuesday at 1 p.m. in an in-region showdown.
