UR Women's Lacrosse Duo Receives IWLCA All-Region Recognition

It was announced on Thursday that two members of the University of Redlands women's lacrosse team landed on the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) All-Region Second Team. Senior midfielder Christy Smith (St. Louis Park, MN) collects her fourth nod with this season's award, while sophomore attack player Aimee Dewan (Alamo, CA) nabs her inaugural honor.

A three-time First-Team selection, Smith finishes out an already-illustrious career with this year's IWLCA distinction. She owns virtually every offensive career record at Redlands, highlighted by surpassing the 200-goal barrier earlier this season. Despite playing with an injury throughout the 2011 campaign, she finished the year with 46 goals, including two game-winners, and 13 assists for 59 points. She provided 35 draw controls and 21 ground balls while forcing eight opponent turnovers on defense.

Smith earlier corralled her second consecutive First-Team All-Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) honor.

Primarily serving as an offensive catalyst, Dewan enjoyed a breakout season with a team-leading 56 goals, which ranks third all-time at Redlands for a single season.  She also tallied eight assists for a total of 64 points. She stepped up with six game-winning goals while leading the Bulldogs to their first NCAA appearance in the program's 13-year history. Dewan also offered 17 ground balls and three caused turnovers.

Dewan also earned All-SCIAC First-Team accolades earlier this season.

The IWLCA All-Region teams recognized 224 student-athletes in Division III. These players are now eligible for inclusion on the IWLCA All-America teams, which will be announced on May 31.
