Women's Soccer's Hoyt, Hafley Tabbed as ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District Honorees

University of Redlands women’s soccer’s junior
midfielder Jessi Hoyt (Boise, ID) and junior defender Chelsea
Hafley (Redlands, CA) each earned a spot on the ESPN The
Magazine/College Sports Information Directors of America
(CoSIDA) Academic All-District VIII Second Team for women's soccer,
as announced today by CoSIDA.
Both selections were for the College Division of the award, which
includes institutions affiliated with NCAA Division II, NCAA
Division III and NAIA.
Hoyt, who boasts a 3.81 GPA as a Business Administration major, has
exemplified the ideals of a true student-athlete. A two-time
Redlands Scholar-Athlete, she has made the Dean’s List each
semester. On the pitch, she has helped fortify the Bulldogs’
offensive attack. With six goals and four assists this season, Hoyt
leads the team in points with 16. In addition, she ranks sixth
among the conference leaders in both goals and points. A regular in
Redlands’ lineup, she has started in 39 consecutive games,
dating back to Oct. 29, 2007. This is Hoyt's inaugural Academic
All-District honor.
A talented contributor to the Bulldog back line, Hafley’s
strong performances both in the classroom and on the field have led
to her Academic All-District Second-Team selection. As a
Communicative Disorders major, Hafley has accumulated a GPA of
3.42. Last season, she helped the team hold the opposition to .463
goals per game, which ranked as the 13th-lowest total in NCAA
Division III. After providing a spark off the bench for two years,
Hafley has solidified a starting role in the defensive third. She
has recorded five goals and one assist so far this year. This is
Hafley's inaugural Academic All-District honor.
Redlands (10-6, 8-3 SCIAC) hopes to end its regular season on a
high note, hosting the University of La Verne on Saturday at 11
a.m. Prior to the start of the match, the Maroon and Gray will
honor its lone senior, goalkeeper Tenley Rawlings (Salt Lake City,
UT), in a Senior Day ceremony.
CoSIDA’s District VIII includes institutions located in
Alaska, Arizona, California, Hawaii, Idaho, Nevada, Oregon, Utah
and Washington in addition to those located in the Canadian
provinces of British Columbia and the Yukon.
All nominees must have a GPA of at least 3.30 and participate in 50
percent of their team’s games to be nominated. The CoSIDA
Academic All-District Teams, which are presented by ESPN The
Magazine, are voted on by members of CoSIDA.
