Women's Soccer Standouts Connolly and Pegan Earn NSCAA All-West Region Accolades

It was announced on Friday that two University of Redlands women's soccer players garnered All-West Region accolades from the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA). Senior forward Fionna Connolly (Salem, OR) collected the second All-Region honor of her career with this year's Second-Team nod. In addition, junior midfielder Kendall Pegan (Lafayette, CA) landed on the Third Team for her inaugural NSCAA award.

During the Bulldogs' 10-6-1 season, Connolly led the squad with a school record-tying 29 points, which came off of 11 goals and seven assists. Her goals and assists in 2011 also landed her third among the program's top-10 lists for each category.

Among her scoring efforts, Connolly notched four game-winners, highlighted by the deciding score in the 80th minute of a 2-1 thriller over Pomona-Pitzer Colleges on Oct. 8. In addition, she recorded seven points (3g, 1a) in the team's dominating 8-0 win against Whittier College on Sept. 21.

This season's performance combined with last year's effort placed Connolly as the Bulldogs' all-time points-scorer with 74 (29g, 16a).

Known for her crafty ability to distribute the ball, Pegan dished out the second-most assists (6) on the team, providing the largest output of her career so far. Against the Poets, she twice landed on the stat sheet by setting up Connolly on two of her three goals.

Pegan scored one goal in 2011 but it was one to remember, coming in the 58th minute to tie up the game against Willamette University (OR), which was eventually won by the Bulldogs in overtime.

She also took the majority of the team's free kicks, revealing her confidence and ability as a play-maker.

Connolly and Pegan both previously landed on the All-Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) First Team.
