While utilizing its depth, the University of Redlands women's soccer program kicked off Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) action on Wednesday by defeating the Tigers of Occidental College, 3-0.
Redlands initiated the scoring in the 40th minute when freshman forward Jennifer Franklin (Shoreline, WA) notched her inaugural goal in a Bulldog uniform. Sophomore forward Kristen Arroyo (San Diego, CA) and sophomore midfielder Kate Van Vuren (Seattle, WA) combined to find Franklin for the goal.
Up 1-0 at the half, the Maroon and Gray knew that it needed to push for more goals. Just under eight minutes into the second half, junior forward Lihini Weerasinghe (Redlands, CA) followed up a saved shot and blasted the ball into the net to double the lead.
Redlands' leading goal-scorer, senior midfielder Meghan King (Portland, OR) tacked on the insurance goal in the 85th minute when she found the back of the net for the third time in this young season.
