U of R Women's Soccer Shares Points with La Verne in Scoreless Draw
The University of Redlands women's soccer program couldn't find the back of the net on Saturday evening, as it tied the University of La Verne in double overtime, 0-0. The tie drops the Bulldogs into fourth place in the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) standings, with just two conference matches to play in the regular season.
The Maroon and Gray dominated the contest on all levels. In both the first and second halves, the Bulldogs out-shot the Leopards, 8-4, and for the game, held the corner-kick advantage, 6-1. Despite all of these statistical advantages, Redlands couldn't find the finishing touch that it needed to secure the crucial three points.
Freshman midfielder Savannah Laursen (Boise, ID), senior forward Samantha Rivera and senior midfielder Kendall Pegan (Lafayette, CA) led the Bulldogs' attack on the evening, tallying 10 shots between the three players.
Defensively the Bulldogs were extremely strong, allowing just 11 shots and only three on frame. Senior goalkeeper Linzey Smith (Anaheim Hills, CA) and junior goalkeeper Sabrina Grandke-Bawab (Kirkland, WA) both did their parts in goal as well, notching three saves combined.
The Maroon and Gray (8-4-3, 6-4-2) return to action tomorrow afternoon when it hosts west-region rival, UC Santa Cruz. Kickoff at Farquhar Field is scheduled for 2 p.m.
