Redlands Women's Soccer Collects Three CoSIDA Academic All-District Selections

The College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) released its 2012 Academic All-District soccer awards on Thursday morning, recognizing three senior players from the University of Redlands women's soccer program.  Goalkeeper Linzey Smith (Anaheim Hills, CA), defender Maddy Cartwright (Salt Lake City, UT) and midfielder Meghan King (Portland, OR) each landed on the First Team.  For all three players, it is their second consecutive CoSIDA honor.

Playing as the team's starting goalkeeper all season long, Smith recorded her best performance of her career.  Starting in all 18 contests for the Bulldogs, she notched a 5-2-1 overall record while tallying a stellar goal-against-average of just 0.68.  Only allowing seven goals on the campaign, Smith racked up 35 saves and a save percentage of .833.  This Redlands Scholar-Athlete and Dean's List member boasts a 3.91 cumulative GPA as a Communicative Disorders major.

As one of the Bulldogs' most consistent defenders during the 2012 campaign, Cartwright contributed to Maroon and Gray's effective backline.  Her efforts helped the team to record an overall goals-against-average of 0.84 and an opponent-shot-percentage of just .069.  A standout student-athlete, this Psychology major has landed on the Dean's List every semester of her Bulldog career and is also three-time Redlands Scholar Athlete.  She currently holds a remarkable 3.97 cumulative GPA.

Playing in the center of the pitch during each of her four years with the Maroon and Gray, King experienced one of her most successful seasons in 2012.  She registered a career-high in goals (4) in addition to dishing out one assist.  On October 21, she scored one of her most important goals of the season when she converted a penalty-kick opportunity in the second overtime against UC Santa Cruz.  A Redlands Scholar-Athlete and Dean's List member, King boasts a flawless 4.00 cumulative GPA and looks forward to completing her degree in Biology.

As members of the Academic All-District First Team, Smith, Cartwright and King now advance onto the national ballot for possible CoSIDA Academic All-America recognition.
