The University of Redlands women’s tennis team hosted two Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) matches this weekend, earning decisive victories over Caltech and Cal Lutheran University.

On Friday, Redlands posted a solid 9-0 sweep over the Beavers of Caltech by dropping only five games overall. In doubles, the #1 team of sophomore Rachael Miller (Newport Beach, CA) and freshman Sara Yoshinaga (Honolulu, HI) shut out their opponents, 8-0, while sophomores Paige Sumida (Hilo, HI) and Sutton Anderson (Breckenridge, CO) produced the same results at #2. In singles, senior Natalie Krzmazick (Yucaipa, CA) cruised to a 6-0, 6-1 victory at #1, while junior Kelly Lesoing (Bellingham, WA) took down her opponent at #2, 6-1, 6-2. The Bulldogs also gained impressive wins from freshman Lauren Kelley (Lakewood, WA) at #3 (6-1, 6-0) and sophomore Carrie McCann (McMinnville, OR) at #4 (6-0, 6-0). The rest of the matches were defaulted by Caltech who only had four players available to compete.

On Saturday, the Bulldogs took on Cal Lutheran and earned an impressive 8-1 win over the Regals. Redlands easily swept the doubles before taking all but one of the singles matches. Sumida and sophomore Whitney Waters (Austin, TX) cruised to an 8-2 victory at #1 as the duo of Miller and Yoshinaga came out on top at #2 with a score of 8-2. In addition, junior Kaleena Wakamatsu (Maui, HI) and Krzmarzick took down their opponents at #3 with a solid 8-1 showing. In singles, the Bulldogs dropped only two games in the five victories as Sumida, senior Katie Bell (San Dimas, CA), and Yoshinaga shut out their opponents, 6-0, 6-0, at #2, #3 and #6, respectively. Wakamatsu also made quick work of her opponent at #4, 6-1, 6-0, while junior Tori Damiani (Sacramento, CA) cruised to a 6-0, 6-1 victory at #5.

The #11 Bulldog women’s tennis team (11-4, 6-0 SCIAC) takes to the road this week with a non-conference match against Point Loma Nazarene University on Tuesday at 3 p.m. before heading to conference rival Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Colleges on Saturday for an important 9:30 a.m. showdown with the Athenas.
