Redlands Womens Tennis Gains 6-3 Victory over Point Loma Nazarene University
The University of Redlands women’s tennis team traveled to
Point Loma Nazarene University for a non-conference match on
Tuesday. After sweeping the doubles, the Bulldogs prevailed over
the #13 NAIA opponents by a score of 6-3.
In doubles, Redlands cruised by the Sea Lions with solid scores at
every slot. The #1 team of sophomores Paige Sumida (Hilo, HI) and
Whitney Waters (Austin, TX) posted an 8-5 victory while sophomore
Rachael Miller (Newport Beach, CA) and freshman Sara Yoshinaga
(Honolulu, HI) came out on top by a resounding score of 8-1. To
wrap up the sweep, the #3 duo of senior Katie Bell (San Dimas, CA)
and junior Tori Damiani (Sacramento, CA) earned an 8-4 win.
The Bulldogs looked to the bottom half of their lineup to secure
the victory as they won in straight sets. Waters led the charge
with an impressive 6-3, 6-2 showing at the #4 slot as Damiani
gained a 7-5, 6-1 victory at #5. Finally, Yoshinaga won at #6 with
scores of 6-2, 7-6 (3).
Redlands (12-4, 6-0 SCIAC) looks forward to facing off against
rival Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Colleges on Saturday in the final
match of the conference round robin. The Bulldogs travel to
Claremont for the 9:30 a.m. match against the Athenas.
