Dave Donn Named West Region Assistant Women's Tennis Coach of the Year
Earlier this week, the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) announced that Dave Donn of the University of Redlands was named the West Region Assistant Women's Tennis Coach of the Year.
This accolade follows his inaugural season with the Bulldogs, serving in a prominent role with the women's tennis team. While Head Coach Geoff Roche primarily works with the men, Donn took on virtually every responsibility associated with managing and coaching the women's team.
"Dave is the consummate coach. He manages all aspects of the [women's tennis] program and does so with class, integrity, and the best interests of the team at all times," commented Roche. "We are extremely fortunate to have Dave as a member of our team."
During the 2010 season, the Redlands women's tennis team was consistently ranked among the nation's top 25 and advanced to the NCAA Championships for the 10th time in 11 years. The Bulldogs cruised to a first-round victory over Gwynedd-Mercy College (PA) before faltering to regional rival Chapman University in the second round.
Donn led the Bulldogs to a 13-10 overall record against nationally-ranked opponents and an 8-2 mark in Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) competition to finish second in the standings.
Prior to coaching the Maroon and Gray, Donn served as the head coach of the men's tennis team at Williams College (MA), guiding the Ephs to back-to-back Elite Eight appearances.
Donn is now being considered for the National Assistant Coach of the Year honor, which will be announced on May 27.
