Bulldog Volleyball Splits Matches on Friday Night

The University of Redlands volleyball team took to the road on Friday night, facing #24 Central College (IA) and Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) opponent Caltech in Pasadena, earning a split decision. The Bulldogs suffered a tough four-game loss to Central before cruising past Caltech in straight sets.

First, Redlands took on Central in a non-conference match but came up short against the Dutch in a tightly-contest battle, 17-30, 32-30, 33-35, 18-30. No statistics were available.

In their second match, the Bulldogs quickly rebounded by sweeping the Beavers of Caltech., 30-14, 30-23, 30-16. Playing 13 of its 15 members, Redlands looked to freshman outside hitter Jackie Hamilton (Loma Linda, CA) to lead the charge with seven kills. Senior outside hitter Lori Nakamura (Honolulu, HI) added six while sophomore right-side hitter Courtney Rood (Beaverton, OR) stepped in with five. Freshman middle blocker Liz Figeroid (Sacramento, CA) provided five service aces to go along with freshman defensive specialist Kortney Watring’s (Riverside, CA) four. Defensively, the Bulldogs gained 14 digs from junior libero Dory Baga (Aiea, HI).

The Bulldogs (12-12, 5-4 SCIAC) look forward to playing non-conference opponent Millikin University (IL) at 10 a.m. on Saturday, followed by a SCIAC match against Whittier College at 6 p.m. Both matches will take place in Currier Gym.
