Bulldog Volleyball Sweeps Whittier College

In an important Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) match, the University of Redlands volleyball team swept the visiting Poets of Whittier College, 30-23, 30-24, 30-23.

The Bulldogs opened the first game with a quick lead, relinquishing it only once. Redlands steadily improved its play through the end of the match, gaining a strong hitting percentage of .310 in game two. Although Whittier’s defense improved in the final game, the Bulldogs rallied to gain the sweep.

For Redlands, the team saw astounding play from senior right-side hitter Cassie McEuen (Mountain View, CA), who tallied a match-leading 15 kills with only one error for a hitting percentage of .700. Freshman middle blocker Megan Phillips (Vista, CA) also played well by putting away 10 kills with only two errors for a hitting percentage of .308. Rounding out the Bulldog offense, sophomore right-side hitter Jordann Tanner (Vista, CA) gained a mark of .389 with seven kills and no errors. Whittier looked to the strong performance of senior outside hitter Shanell McMillen (Hacienda Heights, CA), who earned 14 kills and 14 digs. Defensively, the Bulldogs gained a match-leading 24 digs from junior libero Dory Baga (Aiea, HI).

The Bulldogs (13-13, 6-4 SCIAC) look forward to hosting conference rival Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Colleges on Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. in Currier Gym.
