Bulldog Womens Water Polo Falters in Opening Tournament
The University of Redlands women’s water polo team hosted
the Redlands Mini-Tournament on Sunday, gaining experience against
two challenging opponents. The Bulldogs came up short in both
games, falling to Division II Cal State San Bernardino, 4-12, and
NAIA competitor Cal Baptist University, 4-9.
In their opening game, the women took on the Coyotes of CSUSB but
struggled to find the back of the net, scoring only four goals in
the loss. The Bulldogs gained two scores from junior 2m-offenisve
player Sam Greenawalt (Riverside, CA) to go along with single goals
from senior driver Alana Martinez (Riverside, CA) and junior driver
Claire Quinn (Fresno, CA). Junior Lauren Ellsworth (Napa, CA) and
sophomore Whitney Schieler (Porterville, CA) split time in the
cage, making four and two stops, respectively.
The Bulldogs also faced Cal Baptist in their opening weekend of
action. Once again, Greenawalt led the team with two goals, while
junior 2m-defender Jennifer Caron (San Dimas, CA) and senior
2m-defender Molly Todd (Sacramento, CA) each supplied one.
Ellsworth provided six saves between the pipes.
Redlands women’s water polo (0-2) looks forward to competing
in the Triton Invitational at UC San Diego on Saturday and Sunday,
February 9-10.
