Redlands Womens Water Polo Competes at Claremont Convergence
The Bulldog women’s water polo team took on four opponents
at the annual Claremont Convergence on Saturday and Sunday. During
the first day, Redlands suffered a tough 6-12 loss to the
University of Maryland before rebounding with an exciting 11-10
overtime victory against Siena College (NY). On Sunday, the
Bulldogs battled it out against Wagner College (NY) but came up
short by a score of 11-12 and then faltered against Bucknell
College (PA), 7-10, in their final game of the weekend.
On Saturday, Redlands faced #6 Maryland to open the tournament.
Despite 13 saves by junior goalkeeper Lauren Ellsworth (Napa, CA),
the Bulldogs fell to the Terps by a score of 6-12. Junior
2m-offensive player Sam Greenawalt (Riverside, CA) and junior
2m-defender Jen Caron (San Dimas, CA) provided two goals as junior
driver Claire Quinn (Fresno, CA) and freshman driver Kelley Cooper
(San Antonio, TX) each supplied one. Redlands quickly rebounded in
its second game, earning a hard-fought overtime win against Siena,
11-10. Greenawalt offered an explosion of goals with five, while
sernior 2m-defender Molly Todd (Sacramento, CA) came up with four
and Caron added two. Ellsworth posted six saves between the
pipes.
The Bulldogs returned to action on Sunday, taking on Wagner and
Bucknell. Greenawalt continued to lead the Redlands offense with
her six goals against Wagner. Todd supplied a hat trick as Quinn
and senior driver Alana Martinez (Riverside, CA) chipped in one
apiece. Ellsworth tallied nine saves in the tough loss. The
women’s water polo team rounded out the weekend with
competitive match against Bucknell. Redlands looked to Quinn to
lead the team with three goals, while Caron added two. Greenawalt
and Todd supplied one goal apiece. Adding to her impressive numbers
for the weekend, Ellsworth came up with 14 saves in the losing
effort.
Redlands (2-12) returns home to the Thompson Aquatic Center on
Tuesday for two games as the Bulldogs host Marist College (NY) at 4
p.m., followed by George Washington University (DC) at 7 p.m.
