Redlands Womens Water Polo Splits Games against Non-Conference Opponents
The University of Redlands women’s water polo team
returned home to the Thompson Aquatic Center on Tuesday for games
against two non-conference opponents. In the first game, the
Bulldogs battled it out with Marist College (NY) but came up short
in the 7-11 loss. Redlands quickly rebounded with a solid 7-2 win
over visiting George Washington University (DC).
Against Marist, Redlands gained another standout performance from
junior 2m-offensive player Sam Greenawalt (Riverside, CA), who
tallied five goals against the Red Foxes. Junior driver Claire
Quinn (Fresno, CA) and sophomore 2m-defender Tawny Rielly
(Oceanside, CA) added one apiece while junior goalkeeper Lauren
Ellsworth (Napa, CA) posted three saves between the pipes.
Later that night, the Bulldogs took on George Washington University
and earned a solid win over the Colonials. Greenawalt once again
led the offensive charge with three goals while Quinn earned two.
Freshman driver Katie Stadius (Mercer Island, WA) and junior
2m-defender Jen Caron (San Dimas, CA) rounded out the
Bulldogs’ scoring with one apiece. Ellsworth came up with six
saves for Redlands.
The Bulldog women’s water polo team (3-13 overall) looks
forward to hosting the second Redlands Mini-Tournament on Saturday.
Redlands takes on Colorado State University at 9 a.m., followed by
a 2:30 p.m. game against Concordia University – Irvine.
Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Colleges also faces these opponents,
matching up against Concordia at 10:15 a.m. and CSU at 1:15 p.m.
