Bulldog Womens Water Polo Opens SCIAC with Win
The University of Redlands women’s water polo team began
its quest for a 10th Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic
Conference (SCIAC) Championship on Saturday with an opening game
against Whittier College. With a seven-goal outburst in the fourth
quarter, the Bulldogs prevailed by a score of 15-9.
After leading through three quarters, Redlands held an 8-7
advantage entering the final period. The Bulldogs rallied to score
seven times while limiting the Poets to only two goals, resulting
in a solid 15-9 victory.
Leading the Bulldogs, junior 2m-offenisve player Sam Greenawalt
(Riverside, CA) posted six goals while junior driver Claire Quinn
(Fresno, CA) added a hat trick. Junior 2m-defender Jen Caron (San
Dimas, CA) put two goals away as senior 2m-defender Molly Todd
(Sacramento, CA), junior driver Alex Haynes (Valley Center, CA),
senior driver Alana Martinez (Riverside, CA) and junior driver
Katelyn LaPine (Laguna Niguel, CA) scored one apiece. Junior Lauren
Ellsworth (Napa, CA) remained steady in goal by making seven saves
for Redlands.
Redlands (5-15, 1-0 SCIAC) heads to Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Colleges
on Wednesday at 7 p.m. for a conference match against the Athenas.
