Bulldog Womens Water Polo Falters at UCSD Triton Invitational

The University of Redlands women’s water polo team went
0-4 against elite competition at the UCSD Triton Invitational on
Saturday and Sunday in La Jolla.
Redlands dropped its first tilt of the weekend, 3-15, against San
Diego State University. Sophomore driver Joy Corona (Lake Bluff,
IL), freshman driver Lindsey Zehner (Portland, OR) and junior
driver Chandler Weeks (Palm Desert, CA) each scored once while
senior goalkeeper Whitney Schieler (Porterville, CA) stopped 13
shots protecting the Bulldog net.
The second match-up of the day featured a close contest through
three quarters, but Long Beach State pulled away in the fourth to
prevail, 10-5. Sophomore center Jaime Nippert (Gresham, OR) rattled
the back of the cage twice while sophomore center Jamie Paul
(Boring, OR), Weeks and sophomore driver Casey Sripramong
(Glendale, CA) contributed one score apiece. Corona used her high
water polo IQ to draw five ejections while Schieler kept the
Bulldogs alive with 18 saves.
Sripramong’s two goals led Redlands’ offensive attack
against Marist College (NY), but the Red Foxes’ offense
overwhelmed the Bulldogs in a 4-14 loss. Corona and Weeks each
offered a goal as well. Schieler and junior goalkeeper Tiana
Singley (Benicia, CA) split time in net, combining for five saves,
while Corona helped out the defense with four drawn ejections.
The Maroon and Gray dropped its final contest of the weekend in a
6-8 defeat at the hands of Sonoma State. Nippert and freshman
center Mandy Nussbaum (Bellevue, WA) supplied a pair of goals while
Corona and freshman driver Moanalani Tuipulotu (Lahaina, HI)
managed one score apiece. Schieler halted eight shots in between
the pipes for the Bulldogs.
Redlands (0-6) takes a month off from competition before attending
the Chapman Tournament on Saturday, March 13, in Orange. Opponents
