Redlands Women’s Cross Country Takes Second at SCIAC Multi-Duals; Men Finish Fourth

The University of Redlands cross country teams competed in the 2007 Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) Multi-Duals at Prado Park in Chino on Saturday. The women went 6-1 for second place and the men earned a 4-3 mark for fourth.

For the women, the Bulldogs gained five runners in the top-20 with sophomore Stephanie Mera (Redlands, CA) leading the charge with her fifth-place time of 24:47.63. Junior Avery Kelly (Ft. Worth, TX) followed closely behind her, coming in sixth at 24:52.64. Freshman Katie Ostrinski (Riverside, CA) took 13th with her time of 25:27.02 while sophomore Onesa Bowman (Pomona, CA) finished in 25:51.08 for 16th place. Rounding out the Redlands harriers, freshman Heather Mayer (Spring Valley, CA) came in 17th overall with her time of 25:52.13.

Senior Chris Smith (Fremont, CA) led the men’s charge by taking third place with a time of 26:42.24. He was just 20 seconds off of the leader. Freshman Jeremy Kalmus (New Orleans, LA) posted a mark of 27:38.71 for 13th place while sophomore Jake Baechle (Aurora, OH) came in 19th with a time of 27:58.64. Senior Rey Ramirez (Carlsbad, CA) finished just two spots behind him at 28.00.52. Senior Raul Sevilla (Downey, CA) came in as the Bulldogs’ fifth scorer with a time of 28:20.34 for 29th place.

On the women’s side, Occidental College gained first place in the 6K race while Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Colleges won the men’s 8K event.

The Bulldogs now look forward to the SCIAC Championships at La Mirada Park on Saturday, October 27, at 9 a.m.
